Supported living
-
Group living, sometimes called group homes, is when you live with housemates and receive the support you need – whether that’s help with daily living skills, like bathing and dressing, connecting with others, or behaviour supports. We will come alongside and plan with you -- you tell us what help you want, and we will work with you and your support system to meet your needs.
-
Live independently by yourself, or with a roommate, in your own apartment with your own schedule. Tell us what kind of support you need - like help with appointments, building new skills, or learning how to cook - and we can help you live the life you want.
-
Everybody’s needs are different, and sometimes you need more help to meet your specific needs. Specialized services can mean more mental health support, behaviour therapy, or enhanced medical and mobility assistance. These specialized services can be long or short-term and focus on helping you build skills and strategies to thrive.
-
As an adult, you can live in a home with a person or family who can be there to give you the support you need in a family environment. You will be matched with a person or family who shares interests with you, and you’ll learn valuable life skills while getting the help you need.
Community supports and respite
-
Do you want to be more connected to your community but don’t know where to start? We can help you develop your skills, get involved in your community, try new sports, attend activities during the day, or explore volunteer opportunities.
-
You have skills, gifts, and expertise that you want to develop. We can help you find and apply for jobs, make your resume better, and provide you with training to prepare for a job.
-
Sometimes you just need time away to be your best self! Adult Respite is a short-term stay away from home so you and your family can refresh and recharge. You will be matched with a Host Family or a group living home where you can meet new people, try new things, and enjoy a night, weekend, or week away. This service is for adults 18 years of age or over.
-
Take some time to recharge and be your best self with Children’s Respite. This can include an afternoon, a day, or, in some areas, overnight with a host family. Children’s Respite is for people with developmental disabilities who are under 18 years old. Your child can enjoy day camps, arts and crafts, recreation, and leisure programs.
-
When was the last time you had a family vacation? Our Christian faith-based camps are 3-5 days long and they are designed for people with disabilities and their families to enjoy a vacation together. During overnight camps, a volunteer is matched to each person with a disability so the whole family can recharge and enjoy. All activities are inclusive and accessible so everybody can have a good time!
Individualized services
-
Sit down with a Karis-trained facilitator who will listen to you talk about your future goals and dreams. Your family and loved ones can join you, and together, you can create a written personal plan. This plan can help you choose which supports, services, and resources you need to achieve your goals and dreams.
-
Spend time doing the things you love or want to learn! Take courses where you can learn about healthy relationships, housemates, faith, nutrition, and advocacy. Sign up for workshops on sign language, woodworking, and more!
