The Lasting Impact of Child Sponsorship: Andrea's Story
On a mountainside jungle village in the District of Izabal, Guatemala, you can find Andrea dressed in colourful, traditional Mayan patterns. Andrea is a pre-school teacher at Párvulos Comunitario in El Zapatillo, and the students love her. On weekends, when she is not teaching, she can be found leading a children’s Bible club, and in her spare time she is completing her final year of high school through remote learning.
Andrea was only nine years old when Christian Horizons began sponsoring her. Now at 23, she teaches a new generation of children, in Spanish and in Keck’chi, their Indigenous Mayan language. The elementary school in El Zapatillo welcomes children of all learning differences, including children who have disabilities.
