Learning from Women with Disabilities on "See Hear Love"

Jasmine Duckworth, a community development manager at Karis Disability Services, and Chantal Huinink, Waterloo Regional Councillor, joined Melinda Estabrooks in conversation for season ten of See Hear Love.

Jasmine and Chantal talked to Melinda about the importance of meeting people where they are, valuing everybody as image-bearers of God, and the ongoing journey toward accessibility and belonging.

“People with various abilities, whether you’re able-bodied, whether you have an apparent disability, or a non-apparent disability, God created you to reflect some portion of His image and so together we reflect more of God’s image,” Chantal said on the show.

See Hear Love is a Christian show that focuses on women championing other women to grow in their faith and understanding of Jesus. This particular season emphasizes belonging and instructs viewers on how to be more mindful of people’s unique journeys, respecting their intersectional identities and gifts.

I’m not going to pretend I can serve you in the way other people will, but I will serve you using my gifts if you’ll let me.”

Chantal Huinink, Waterloo Regional Councillor, Author, & Motivational Speaker

When asked how churches and other organizations can work on becoming more accessible, Jasmine said: “Start with relationships and everything else will flow out of that. People are often hesitant to talk about accessibility because they think it will be expensive and time-consuming, but it can be small things.”

“Learning from Women with Disabilities” aired on Monday, December 9 and is available to stream on See Hear Love’s YouTube channel, and for free on the YesTV app.
