Finding Home Again with Host Family: Anne's Story
Anne's path to Karis was marked by transitions, from the loss of her husband three years ago to a living arrangement that didn't quite suit her. Anne knew that she liked living mostly independently and she missed living in a family setting. Thankfully, Karis had a living model that suited her: Host Family.
In a Host Family, a person with a developmental disability lives with a home provider - which can be anybody, a single person, a family with children, a couple - and together, they navigate life, take care of their shared home, and go about their days as a family. Through Host Family, Anne was matched with Roxanne.
Their bond is very strong and Anne spends Christmas and other holidays with Roxanne and her family. Anne has the flexibility to fill her days doing what she wants to do. A creative soul at heart, Anne has grown her artistry. Already an avid photographer and painter, Anne recently got a guitar and is learning to play chords.
Having access to the nearby Community Participation Supports and living in a stable home gives Anne the ability to develop her interests and learn more about herself.
By living with Roxanne, Anne doesn't just find a housing accommodation. She finds a home.
We are always looking for more people to become Host Family providers and you might be able to help people like Anne find new homes.
