A Vacation for the Whole Family: Raymond's Story

Karis Family Camps are a Christian, supported, and accessible vacation experience made for the entire family. At a Karis Family Camp, each family member with a disability is matched with a volunteer whose assignment is to make sure they have the best time ever. With familiar and new activities to try, there is something for everybody!

Raymond is a familiar face around Karis Toronto's Community Participation Supports program. He heard about Karis' Muskoka Family Camp from a direct support professional and though it was only two days away, he convinced his family to register and away they went!

On the first day of camp, Raymond and his parents, Cindy and Harvey, were welcomed by the volunteers and they easily found their place among the other families.

Raymond prefers indoor activities, and he is meticulous with colouring and crafts. He enjoyed some time cutting out his drawings and playing cards with his volunteer, Carrie, and a few other campers. Meanwhile, CIndy and Harvey were outside, having fun going up and down the tube hill.

We hear over and over again that without Karis Family Camp, families with members with disabilities would never get a vacation, especially one where the whole family can be together.

When Karis was founded in 1965, its first ministry was an accessible camp. Now, 60 years later, we're expanding Family Camp to new locations, including Saskatchewan, Alberta, and in Ontario to Muskoka and Windsor.
