A Career With Room to Grow
Katie first started working at Karis Disability Services when she was a student at Humber College, studying Developmental Services Work. She was hired as a co-op student in 2016 doing direct support work and has held a few positions throughout the organization over her nine-year career.
"My experience as a direct support professional keeps me thinking about "the why" -- why Karis does what it does," Katie said.

Katie’s favourite part about being a Direct Support Professional was working with new people and getting to see people grow and accomplish their goals. She said everyday felt like a new experience.
Today, Katie is a systems manager, planning and coordinating applications and online tools to help Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) do their jobs more safely and effectively.
“I feel so grounded in the roots of why Karis does what it does for people supported and that’s because of my work as a DSP,” Katie said.
Katie still gets to work on the frontlines from time to time, like at Family Camp when volunteers need more support.
